Record Shopping with Leif
This Friday, The Pickle Factory hosts three of the deepest diggers in dance music under one roof. XDB, founder of Metrolux, plays a rare London gig, joined by genre-bending Honest Jon's mainstay Laurel Halo, and Freerotation's broken beat maestro Leif.
Ahead of the show, Leif took us record shopping in Bristol's Idle Hands store. He'll be bringing all of his finds to The Pickle Factory to give away on Friday evening. In Leif's own words:
Idle Hands has been an intrinsic part of Bristol's music scene since opening in 2011. It's one of my favourite places to shop as there's always an on-point selection of music and a friendly welcome. They've recently moved - so I took the opportunity to spend a Sunday afternoon at their handsome new premises on City Road to pick out a few bits.
Andy Mac - Diving Bird (Idle Hands)
Where better to start than a fresh release for Idle Hands' in-house label. Solid record with real dub sensibilities behind the production.
Bass Clef - Entendrillar (The Trilogy Tapes)
Former Bristol resident Bass Clef on great form here for TTT.
Batu - Murmur (Timedance)
Another Bristol stalwart, Batu's forward-thinking Timedance label & party has been tearing it up recently, this latest instalment being no exception.
Elgato - Tonight (Hessle Audio)
One of my all-time favourite records gets a well-deserved repress. TIP!
I Roy - Fire In A Wire (Royco)
No trip to Idle Hands would be complete without a 7" dub / reggae purchase. Classic I-Roy in full effect with a dub on the flip.
Jay Daniel - Broken Knowz (Technicolour)
Some nice varied and experimental beats on this double 12" LP from Detroit-based Jay Daniel.
SW - SUED 016 (SUED)
SUED keep churning out quality material, organic and intricate with a real signature sound. This EP follows SW's amazing double 12" LP from last year.
The Other People Place - Lifestyles Of The Laptop Cafe (Warp)
An essential and long-awaited reissue for this classic slice of electronica from the late James Stinson of Drexciya.
You Speak What I Feel - My Good Friends Tell Me That (Boomkat Editions)
DJ Sprinkles and SND team up for a 10-minute syncopated deep house jam one a one-sided 12".
Leif warms the floor at The Pickle Factory this Friday 7th April.
