OSM Mix Series: Kai Alce
Next up in the Oval Space Music mix series is Kai Alce, who plays The Pickle Factory on December 4th 2015.
The NDATL Muzik boss has long been one of our favourite Chicago DJs; a prodigiously talented yet refreshingly humble producer, label owner and record collector who is finally garnering the public praise he’s long deserved.
With his mother’s Soca and his father’s jazz providing the soundtrack to his youth, hip-hop formed a pivotal part of Kai Alce’s (pronounced al-SAY) early musical education, before he was seduced by the vocally harmonic and musically lush sounds of disco – a genre that would go on to become the basis for his track selections and productions to come.
In 2008, Alce’s own imprint, N.D.ATL Muzik, was born, named after New York, Detroit and Atlanta, the three places that have cultivated the sounds and tones of its releases. Forthcoming on the label is Alce’s remixes for Atlanta-based soulful fusionist trio The Dangerfeel Newbies’ track ‘What Am I Here For?’.
Full of the rich, soulful house records Kai is renowned for - and with a few NDATL exclusives thrown in for good measure – the mix is the perfect way to warm up for his Pickle Factory show with Thomas Melchior and Kenny White on December 4th.
